Tall Texans of Dallas Scholarship
If you are a high school student or a freshman in college, and live in the
Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, congratulations! The Tall Texans of Dallas'
Scholarship Committee would like you to apply for a portion of the scholarship
we will be awarding in 2010. In addition to local funds, one local recipient
will be submitted to Tall Clubs, International for consideration of a $1000
Kae Sumner Einfeldt Scholarship.
Last year, we received 140 applications and gave
three scholarships to area high school graduating seniors, in addition to
referring our top candidate for national competition.
To qualify for application, you must meet our minimum height requirements of
5'10" for females and 6'2" for males, be under 21 years old, and plan to attend
college this fall. Still interested?
Your complete application must be postmarked by MARCH 20, 2010. All
materials submitted become the property of the scholarship committee. The
following is a checklist of components for the complete application. Incomplete
applications will not be considered. Please type or print (neatness counts).
-
Completed and signed two page Scholarship Application form.
-
Essay on "What Being Tall Means To Me" using the provided form. Essay should be
250-500 words typed and double-spaced. You must sign this page also.
-
Official school transcript.
-
Two recommendation forms. One form is to be completed by an educator (coach,
teacher, counselor, principal, et cetera). The other form must be completed by
a member of the community (church leader, employer, volunteer supervisor, et
cetera). DO NOT use two educators (that includes counselors and coaches) as we
are looking for well-rounded individuals. Neither recommendation may be from a
relative, and both must be from adults.
- Release form
It is the responsibility of the applicant (not your parent or teachers) to
ensure that ALL components are submitted to the committee. We recommend that you
mail all forms together in one envelope to ensure that all forms are submitted.
General criteria which the committee will use include: a) grades, taking into
account weighted averages and honors courses; b) school activities; c)
community activities; d) content, clarity and originality of essay; and e)
recommendations.
All necessary forms are here:
If your web browser won't let you open them directly, then right click on the
links and save them to your PC. They are Microsoft Word document files.
Local finalists are tentatively planned to be interviewed during the month
of April 2010 (exact date, time and location to be advised to finalist), and
winners will be notified on or before May 7, 2010.
